Leo Tolstoy: A Total Genius of a Writer

RUSSIAN WRITERS like Leo Tolstoy are so tremendous.  It is amazing how Tolstoy and his magnificent work, 'Anna Karenina,' so completely captures all the complex variables of human behavior.  It is so difficult to encapsulate the wild rises and falls that take place in human lives and yet the Russian Genius of Words, Tolstoy does it with ease.  The unique quality  of the Tolstoyan characterizations is the way he blends lyrical romanticism in his people along with a powerful and so resonant sensuality...Tolstoy's brand of picaresque cleverness is overwhelming with its lean and passionate sonorous rampage of exciting and so memorable word descriptions.

Fabulous Eve

RIALTO ASIAN EVENT was indeed so delightful tonight.  Grand awards and exciting and unusual performances and all-in-all a tremendous cultural evening in the lilting land of the ATL.

Lovely ATL Event

Edwin Arlington Robinson

THINKING POETIC today. The sleek poet Edwin Arlington Robinson wrote poignant poems...a favorite of mine has these giant and unique words..."Miniver Cheevy, Child of Woe.:  I love the emotional resonance of this poem.  This kind of iconic, poetic art is terrifically lovely.

F. Scott Fitzgerald...Complex Man of Numerous Dimensions

THE ART OF CLEVER WORDS can be mind boggling for many of us who gain terrific satisfaction out of the joy of reading.  Men like the sleek F. Scott Fitzgerald can bedazzle us with their shrewd interpretations of modern characters who have agnst-oriented tales to tell.  I first started reading Fitzgerald when I was very young....and his tremendous novels like 'Great Gatsby' and 'The Beautiful and the Damned' overwhelmed me.  I got into a rather intense mode of psychological introspection going through myself straining and aching to ferret out literary art gems from the vivid prose art of the provocative Mr. Fitzgerald.  The wild and persuasive works of Fitzgerald live because of their biting, sardonic passion and cavorting elegance showing a finesse view of modern life that is brilliantly engaging.

Good Turner Fun

I SAW A GREAT FILM last night on Turner Classic.  It was the 1931 movie, 'Smart Movie' starring Mary Astor.  This gem, directed by Gregory La Cava, is quite modern in its ideas.  It is hard to believe so much provocative modernism could be contained in a 1931 film release.  The commentary and saucy wit in this 'Smart Woman' script was so enjoyable.

Labor Day and American Culture Motifs

IT  IS LABOR DAY AGAIN:  So I say "Happy Labor Day!"  This unique day is a grand bit of cultural Americana.  We celebrate all the hard-working people of this country.  Today with this ODD economy it is difficult to keep things afloat.  However, we are still trying hard to manage things well.  Let us have pride in ourselves and our labors.  We are good people.

Stanley Kubrick Films Complex and Riveting

MOVIES THAT HIT HARD are such fascinating experiences.  I have been thinking about two Stanley Kubrick films that really "get me" as the pundits say.  These movies are  'Lolita' with the delightful, pretty Sue Lyon and the shiny engaging work with a grande guignol performance by the clever Nicole Kidman...i.e. 'Eyes Wide Shut.'  That thing is such a sexy, shrewd jewel.  Figure this fact right now people:  Mt. Kubrick seems quite a brashly innovative film director.  He gets the job done, beautifully.

College Football Soars Again

GRIDIRON TIMES ARISE ONCE MORE:  Part of our inherent rugged Southern culture energizes its self again.  Today, the feisty DAWGS nation is happy...Yeah...The University of Georgia defeated the men from Buffalo.  It is a fine Saturday in September, indeed!

Nice Writing

THE GOOD terse writing of Ernest Hemingway is a real joy.  He does not use too many adjectives.  His 'Torrents' is a fine tome.
