The Enigma of Al Pacino

POWERHOUSE ACTING remains an essence that fascinates me. Those who have this passion are so very interesting. A man of this nature is the enigmatic person of films, Al Pacino. His intensity is incredible. His portrayal of police guys, football coaches and odd fellows overwhelms. Let's all give an exuberant shout out to the wild man, Mr. Al Pacino.

Piet Mondrian

EXTREME modern art with its often vivid, and so bright colors is a terrific joy.  Also, the terse math of some artful innovators is so really refreshing. This is quite true of the very brash soul...the person called Piet Mondrian. I love his bold, colorful and resounding art.

Culture Weather Etc.

BEAUTIFUL DAY right now.  I love the feisty culture of the bright New South. I am reading Poe and Caldwell today. Getting back to Soul Lit.

Robert Duvall

THE FILMS of Robert Duvall are laden with huge portions of sleek movie art.  This man, Mr, D, is a favorite of my friend and also, yours truly. I got thinking about this acting wizard so I viewed again, the powerful 'Nam' story, 'Apocalypse Now; with Robert playing the part of the dynamic Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore. This sly movie is a rambunctious, poignant characterization of the Vietnam experience. I also recently viewed Mr. R.D. in 'The Godfather, Part II.' In this work the many layers of the legal contemporary mind are explored quite craftily...and this film makes one think long and hard about the rigors of what we amusingly call modern life. Good films can engage our brain cells in insightful ways.

Birthday Man

IT IS MY BIRTHDAY!  I am a man of the South and I know the meaning of culture ideas here in my state and neighboring states. It is good to meditate on life and our experiences. A birthday certainly helps me put things in focus. I enjoy definitive meaning in my life.

The Superior Writer...ELMORE LEONARD!

ELMORE LEONARD passed away early this morning.  He was 87.  The man has been a favorite of mine for so many years.  The gentleman, Mr. Leonard, contributed so much great prose to our culture.  Along with Norman Mailer, Elmore Leonard was a passionate man of words.  Indeed a magnificent, cultural, literary soul!

Sleek 'Dark Victory'

LAST NIGHT WAS HEAVENLY.  I watched the clever, psycho-flavored 1939 film called 'Dark Victory on Turner Classic.  What a marvelous movie experience.  In this 'Dark Victory' Bette Davis plays the part of a wild, edgy woman with numerous mental oddities and then later in the film story her brain goes into a crazed angst and she faces death.  The imaginative performances of Bette Davis, George Brent and Geraldine Fitzgerald are mesmerizing in this quirky movie.  I find films of the 30s and 40s are indeed so sparkly and full of strange filmdom colors and tones of soulful thought.  It is such a heavenly pleasure to thoroughly enjoy a movie. With 'Dark Victory' the enjoyment level is so high. Also the acting work of a young Humphrey Bogart (playing a horseman) is emotionally satisfying and so vigorous intellectually in this one. Indeed the one called 'Dark Victory' in the total sense is such a gigantic, huge win of an experience.

'The Letter'....A Profound Bette Davis Film Project

BETTE DAVIS is a strange and haunting actress.  She is the totality of dynamics in her odd roles.  Her work is so  engagingly sleek and terrifically shiny in the bizarre 1940 movie called 'The Letter.'  I recommend highly this burnished gold, yes this cinematic tour-de-force.

'Suits'...so stylish

TV ON USA NETWORKS so grand, right now.  The feisty 'Suits' show on Tuesdays is so strong and creative. The performances of Gabriel Macht and Meghan Markle are super fine, indeed..

M. Obsession

ROCK HUDSON was super last night in the grand 1954 movie, 'Magnificent Obsession.'  Turner Classics provided a nice film gem for us in this grand cinematic work. Romance certainly makes for lilting stories.

Nice Writing

THE GOOD terse writing of Ernest Hemingway is a real joy.  He does not use too many adjectives.  His 'Torrents' is a fine tome.
