Good Journalistic Writing

I WAS IMPRESSED when I was a young guy with clever writers like Jimmy Breslin of New York.  The man was uncanny in bringing complex news stories to life.  What they taught in J-schools was a long way from the multi-faceted news concepts of a person like Mr. Breslin.  Another strong writer was Paul Valentine of The Atlanta Journal.  He was able to probe the meat and potatoes of a news story in such a shrewd way.

Joan Miro

MIRO'S ART is exuberantly shrewd and so intensely intricate.  Like Rene Magritte, Joan Miro is a wild, passion-filled essence that feels intoxicating.  The art of Chagall and Miro is deliciously cunning and mod and oh so satisfying.

Movie Directors

FACT:  The job of a movie director is often quite difficult but many people have done the job well.  Hitch comes to mind, John Ford, Lubitsch and Mike Nichols.  The cultural arena that is the director's ouevre is often a very steep slope.  I know the super moments in my life have come from watching the film directors wizardry unfold.  These people are treasures.

Magritte

RENE MAGRITTE seems so very clever.  He was a sleek Belgian artist who worked in the wild world of surrealism.  The most buoyant appeal of his work seems that of his conjuring imaginative art works out of the working hard individuals, i.e.  the ordinary people.  Observe the works of Magritte!  Have Fun!

Helen Hunt

INTERESTING SOUL that is Helen Hunt.  She provides a big smorgasboard of pleasant screen dominance in her shrewd work in her film comedies.  I think her cute work in the sleek movie 'What Women Want' was quite charming.  It's fun to enjoy film delights from Ms. Hunt with her compelling aura of intelligence and wistful feminine beauty.

Steinbeckian Realism

JOHN STEINBECK is an author who has unique qualities.  He stirs up interest because his characters are so real...they cavort around having regular people's lives.  Thus, they engage our brains.  His works like 'Of Mice and Men,' 'Cannery Row' and 'Sweet Thursday' draw us into the Steinbeck web so skillfully.  The realism factor is the fact that Steinbeck has a biting passion and he makes a lot of sense.

Auguste Renoir and His Power

CLEVER how sleekly shrewd is the persuasive art of August Renoir.  It is wild how the man creates such thrilling artistic portrayals of dance and other regimens of French life.  Like Degas, the suave Renoir has the brilliance to certainly enchant all of us merry art dilletantes.  I feel a sense of grand, robust energy when I contemplate Monsieur Renoir.  I am especially delighted by his work cited as 'Dance at Moulin De La Galette.'

Saul Bellow

MODERN WRITERS like Saul Bellow possess marvelous qualities.  I am reading again Bellow's crafty novel, 'The Victim.'  It is an intense saga of an angst-ridden soul named Asa Leventhal.  It is powerful writing personified.  I also recommend Mr Bellow's very feisty books, 'Augie March' and 'Herzog. Sophisticated works.

Jeanne Crain...Film Icon, Indeed

DANGEROUS CROSSING is a sly, engaging film noir movie.  The best thing about this oddnik film happens to be the fiercely elegant performnce of Jeanne Crain.  She thrillingly dominates this particular cinematic work.  Of course the crusty Michael Rennie is engaging in this one also.  Have fun with this coy, film noir morsel.

The Great One...Robin Williams...Has Passed

SHOCK HIT HARD TODAY!..When the news came on ABC this evening that Robin Williams had passed I broke down completely.  I have so many truly fantastic memories of the work of this tremendously creative man.  I remember one of my sons and how he loved Robin in the movie, 'Popeye.'  Also, I remember well the strong work Robin had in unique films like 'Good Will Hunting' and 'Mrs. Doubtfire.'  And of course there was Robin and his super working out in the marvelously funny TV show, ' Mork and Mindy.'  It is rough when the great ones leave us.  We appreciate from the bottom of our hearts the glorious passion of the mighty one, Mr. Williams.  R.I.P....ROBIN!

John Steinbeck...A Man Who Understood U.S. Culture

JOHN STEINBECK'S 1937 WORK and I met again.  Yes, I recently re-read Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men.'  I was amazed by his prose...his emotional dexterity in bringing to life the regular people...those who had little in the 1930s.  It is difficult to produce a literary work that has gigantic ripple effects on a country's culture. However, Steinbeck brought the 'Mice and Men; characters of George and Lenny wildly to life. This small book has a remarkable sense of style.  When you read this you discover what life is about and that is a good thing.

Nice Writing

THE GOOD terse writing of Ernest Hemingway is a real joy.  He does not use too many adjectives.  His 'Torrents' is a fine tome.
