Mr. Wassily Kandinsky
ABSTRACT ART MOVES ME: I am especially energized by the bright colors found in the exciting art works of Wassily Kandinsky. His work fires up one's creativity. His 'Yellow, Red and Blue (c. 1925) is a passionate, tremendous piece of art.

Pablo Picasso
THE INNOVATOR: The wild and cleverly terrific innovator Pablo Picasso has art that is so refreshing. His cubism and even his earlier rather semi-traditional pieces overwhelm us with their powerful vigor. His art is so energetic that its brings out feisty feedlings in us similar to listening to the jumpin' sounds of Offenbach.

Glenn Ford
SOME ACTORS ARE ODD. This is true of many crafty souls who bounce between genres a lot. This cadre includes guys like the canny Glenn Ford. He did many Westerns. But he goes with the hard-boiled man at times. A tough male bit is the acting job he did on the gangster brand movie tagged 'The Big Heat.' Ford is slick, a bit bizarre, but still he somehow manages to get the job done in 'The Big Heat.' This film is kind of amusing despite its uneven social rhapsodizing.

Robert Mitchum
MR. MITCHUM is true acting greatness. I have always loved the famed movie star's style. He could always do a great job playing the tough guy. But, he could be sensitive, too. The other night (On Turner) he proved this point strongly again in 'Holiday Affair.'

Gary Cooper
MR. COOPER (i.e. Gary) is a super actor. His style is full of finesse. His performance in the unusual film, 'The Fountainhead' is truly a big favorite of mine.

Joan Fontaine
ANOTHER LEGEND has passed....the superstar, Joan Fontaine. She did remarkable acting work in two of Hitch's films, 'Rebecca' and Suspicion.' Film dynamics was an aesthetic Fontaine undestood magnificently.

Mr. Tristano: 'Man of Mystery'
CLEVER, SEARCHING jazz remains difficult to grasp at times. However, if one opens up the mind then a person can achieve terrific enjoyment. The elegant blind jazz pianist, Lennie Tristano, is a super musicality human. His brash jazz of the late 40s and early 50s slashes toward us and we are mesmerized by the cascading, sly harmonic joys of the sounds. Mr. Tristano...a little later on....helped give energy to the "free jazz" movement. It is fun to comprehend the aggressive modernism of Mr. Lennie Tristano.
Peter O'Toole, A Great One Has Gone
SURPRISE SITUATION...It is a melancholy day. One of my favorite film actors, the legendary one, Peter O'Toole has passed. Of course so many remember his superb work in 'Lawrence of Arabia' but my favorite was the unusual work called 'My Favorite Year,' the movie that came out in the early 80s. The screen lit up tremendously when O'Toole came on to enter intensely into the story. We will all miss this creative, imaginative genius of a man.

Luther Allison, Powerhouse Music Man
BLUES GUYS are very unique. One fine Blues artist is the quite feisty one...Luther Allison. This man (born in Arkansas) made a super name for himelf on the Chicago scene. He did well with Motown, also. I think one of his best numbers is the thoughtful song called, 'It Hurts Me Too.'
Joys of the Abstract Art Sphere
I LOVE ABSTRACT OR SO-CALLED MODERN ART. I have incredibly intensified my joy over the wildness of absract and surrealistic art. In many ways I have gotten where I enjoy more and more the brash, bright colors of the mighty Wassily Kandinsky, Adolph Gottlieb and Salvador Dali. These men are fabulous in their perceptive artistic vision. The Kandinsky piece entitled, 'Yellow, Red and Blue, C. 1925' is a particular favorite of mine.

American H.
Looks like the new David O. Russell film, 'American Hustle' is going to be a great one. People in it like Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, and Jennifer Lawrence really bolster the story. Hope it goes great guns.

Guitar 'Wildisms'
ANOTHER THING about Mr. Freddie King...I recall he got in many competing music battles with other famed Chicago guitar guys. Some thoughtful writers tagged this mode of wild music stuff, "gunslinging" and this tough-guy activity was exciting. F.K. was a strong and very emotional player. As the kids of now might say....the guy was "hot." Like the sinewy musicality of Otis Rush and Buddy Guy, the fellow by the name of Freddie King was a superman of a mod performer.

Freddie King
BLUES GUYS FROM TEXAS AND THE MIGHTY CHICAGO are super fabulous. A sleek and wowee soulful strong man is the very cookin' and zesty Mr. Freddie King. He was born in Texas but later on went on up to wild Chocago and with his big guy style he made it big. He was powerfully influenced by Blind Lemon Jefferson and Big Bill Broonzy. I honestly believe he has a kickin' kind of power style that'll really draw the listener in. His versions of 'Hide Away,' 'I'm Tore Down' and the free-wheelin' giant number 'Sweet Home Chicago' are truly somethin' else. King's power-driving attack and his giant physical visage made for a potent soul and often he traded riffs with some famed guys like Luther Allison, Magic Sam and Otis Rush. Yeah, Mr. Freddie King is an AWESOME performer.

'Mob City'
MOOD. HISTORIC PIECES are sometimes difficult to encapsulate. But the new show, 'Mob City' on TNT manges to pull off the ambience, mood concept in a satisfying manner. I watched this new thing last night on my tv and was enchanted by this scrumptious L.A. story of the famed California tough guys, Mickey Cohen, Buggsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky et. al. The story line is sleek on this piece of work and the directing work by the so-creative Frank Darabont is terrifically refreshing. I feel the imaginative use of exciting night club jazz gives a saxophone, sensuous zing to the story, producing a seductive snare to plunge the viewer deep into the multi-layered plotline.
THIS 'MOB CITY' truly rocks as the pundits say. Last night, the acting job that Edward Burns did as the crafty Ben, 'Buggsy' Siegel was very passionate. Frank Darabont has produced strong work with this exquisite panorama on life in the wild Los Angeles in the cunning 1940s.

Thoughts on Canny, Oddball Days
TODAY (Tuesday) has been so bad...Dealing with office personnel is so irritating. Medical folks need to be responsive....not so gauche, as the fine, French say.

Nice Writing
THE GOOD terse writing of Ernest Hemingway is a real joy. He does not use too many adjectives. His 'Torrents' is a fine tome.

COOLING OFF WITH WEST COAST JAZZ is loads of fun. The temp is wildly hot now and so I listened to Art Pepper jazz, grand West Coast stuff....
