Lester Young: Fabulous Saxophone Genius

Needed inspiration today. Needed mainstream JAZZ. I got it! Yeah...today I listened to the flaming hot tenor sax of the powerhouse Lester Young. The man along with the Kansas City Seven was doing the super jazz standard, 'Lester Leaps In.' This sound with its omnipresent totality of jazz classicism (a la, the fabulous keyboard comping of Mr. Count Basie) packs a brashness and a burnished gold quality that really charms the listeners. Enjoying the big tenor sounds of Lester Young...Well, that's heavenly fun...Indeed!

Snow Melting.......It's Big JAZZ times!

A Beautiful Day! The snow is melting! Wowee! Happy, Jazzy Times! I celebrated by listening to super-wild Count Basie, Maynard Ferguson, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Miles Davis music. Also enjoyed jumpin' good sounds from the fabulous Oscar Peterson on the keyboard!

DAWGS Get It Done! They won one!

Wonderful Saturday! The DAWGS of my favorite UGA got finally going today. They whipped the mighty VOLS of Tenn. I celebrated. Felt so good. I am an old soul...so I listened to Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Miles Davis this afternoon. As a friend of mine says..."Life is Good!" My, my......IT SURE IS!

Count Basie music proves so very sparkling

Atlanta area weather has been so super,today. I feel so much better since it warmed up. Celebration was on my mind so I dug Count Basie big band music this lovely Friday. Lord, the bright and electrifying living large sound of the Count Basie unit is so refreshing. The best tunes I heard today were 'April in Paris' and 'Shiny Stockings.' Both these numbers had great tight arrangements with the brass and saxes showing lots of sparkling punch and drive. Later on today I figure I'm gonna delve into some grand Duke Ellington big band music. My two favorite Duke Ellington compositions are 'Satin Doll' and 'It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing. Yes, that Mr. Ellington is a tremendous jazz icon just like the profound man with a classic beat, Count Basie. Please remember the gigantic sound of jazz music is a superior healer of our inner anxiety and those huge woes. Jazz can turn us all around and make us feel grand and get us away from the brittle cynicism and pseudo-intellectualism that seems to permeate our multifaceted society. Enjoy the fun that is right there in your lives, people!
