Shorty Rogers and The Giants ...'Cool.'
Listening today to a superb musician, the flugelhorn man, Shorty Rogers. This "cool" West Coast individualist of jazz is a fellow who creates captivating musical art. His group Shorty Rogers and the Giants had a tightness and a cohesiveness that was so interesting. Also, sidemen like Lou Levy, piano and Mel Lewis on the mighty drums broadly expanded the appeal of this brand of jazz. And do not forget the fine saxophone work of Joe Maini. When he was with Rogers the guy could do a feisty, cool job on his horn. Shorty Rogers group music is just right for this bizarre weekend.

Nice Writing
THE GOOD terse writing of Ernest Hemingway is a real joy. He does not use too many adjectives. His 'Torrents' is a fine tome.

COOLING OFF WITH WEST COAST JAZZ is loads of fun. The temp is wildly hot now and so I listened to Art Pepper jazz, grand West Coast stuff....
