Bullock, McCarthy and 'Heat' Power

'THE HEAT' with Bullock and McCarthy did rather well in competing with Channing Tatum and J. Foxx...This is a clever cinema aspect.

Gary Cooper Elegance

'MR. DEEDS' is an acrimonious and fabulous 1936 movie with the strong-willed and elegant Gary Cooper and the very sensual and sleek Jean Arthur.  Frank Capra made a vigorous charm of a film with this one...the one called 'Mr. Deeds Goes to Town.'

'To Have and Have Not'

HEMINGWAY material is quite sensual, smoldering and yes clever.  Watched the wily Bogart, Bacall film, 'To Have and Have Not' again, recently.  The mystical duo of Bacall and Bogart brought this resounding Hemingway-esque bit bouncing to life....Oh Yeah!

Senor Blues...The Artful Horace Silver

THE HORACE SILVER QUINTET produced refreshing. well-crafted jazz.  Lyrical indeed is the engaging composition 'Senor Blues' that Horace Silver and buddies developed into a shrewd, spirited and so robust jazz romp.  Silver's keyboard work is grand on this edgy tune as is the wily Hank Mobley on a captivating set of saxophone sparkles the man puts together.  Silver jazz magic is entrancing...Especially I love 'Senor Blues.'

Steve Lacy on Soprano Sax

I FIGURE Steve Lacy is indeed one cool customer on soprano sax.  Jazz for him is an opportunity to soar to the artful heights.  His work with the odd title, 'I Do Not Believe' is especially meaningful with its rather bellicose veneer.

Hubert Laws....'Super' On Flute

THE FLUTE SOUND is  so slick and so cool.  Such pleasant and lilting joy comes from this mellow instrument.  The suave flute master Hubert Laws has produced such engaging work.  The sleek dignity of The Hubert Laws Quintet is resilient.  His work entitled 'Shades of Light; is vividly joyful.

Coltrane, Miles

JAZZ NIGHT....I have been listening to the arousing classic 1959 track called 'So What; with Miles and Coltrane.  My word these sounds are so passionate and they elevate jazz to the heights of our culture.  These Jazz horns are greatness personified.  Oh My,  ...YEAH!

Mr. Gandolfini

JAMES GANDOLFINI has passed.  What a fantastic man this guy was.  A genius among us and because of the magnificent Gandolfini of New Jersey we were so blessed.

Barry Harris

THE MAN MR. BARRY HARRIS created such exciting jazz piano music.  The attraction of his material is his terrific modicum of intensity.  The sound of brash, elegant jazz piano is so marvelous.

Art Blakey

POWERFUL Jazz drumming is whoopee wonderful.  The wild jazz of the genius, the super Art Blakey, is marvelous, indeed.  Love exuberant, innovative Jazz drumming.

'Dark Passage'

BOGART AND BACALL were energetically great in the 'Dark Passage' movie last night on TCM.  The bristling, moving chemistry between Bogart and Bacall is so poignant in this film. Indeed, this is what good "Film Noir" is all about.  It cheers me to see the sleek writer David Goodis have his powerful words brought vividly to the screen in such a shrewd Delmes Daves-directed work of cinema.

Administrative Absurdities Loom In Bizarre Heinous Fashion

OUR CULTURE IS OFTEN CRASS, RATHER ABSURD:  It is so very, very hard to get things accomplished now.  The loons are taking over most all business and admin offices.  The horrendous thing is the number of times your phone calls are put on hold.  The decadent thing is how there is no such concept as keeping the customer happy.  The weird arena of the vigorous thinker George Orwell has indeed come to fruition.

Nice Writing

THE GOOD terse writing of Ernest Hemingway is a real joy.  He does not use too many adjectives.  His 'Torrents' is a fine tome.
